Top 5 Reasons to Adopt from your Local Animal Shelter

Reasons to Adopt from your Local Animal Shelter

Although there are more than 5 reasons why you should consider adopting a new furry friend into your home, I have compiled what I feel to be the top 5 reasons you should rush to your local shelter and consider a new family member.

  1. You take advantage of possibly adopting an adult animal.

While often it would seem that adopting a young animal would be better as owners feel they are easier to train, this is not always the case. Often animals will come to our shelter already trained and obedient. This means that by adopting this animal you would get to skip all of the rough stages of being a parent of a puppy or kitten. You also get to have a calmer animal than if they were still young. These animals are all too often overlooked for their age. In reality an older animal may be the perfect fit for your lifestyle and family.

  1. You get a lifetime resource with your shelter.

At our shelter when you adopt through us, we become a part of your extended family and will be there to assist you with any of the growing pains of new pet ownership as well as be there to celebrate you and your new family member. We have many resources such as vet clinic relationships and other resources you will be able to take advantage of.

  1. You receive a pet that has been well cared for.

You can ensure that when animals come through our doors they are treated with the utmost care and that they will be healthy when they are handed over to your home. We have an extensive screening process that all animals are evaluated to ensure they are healthy and are not a safety risk to your family. Your safety and the safety and health of your current pets is the number one priority when we evaluate animals for adoption eligibility.

  1. You pay much less than buying a puppy from a breeder or store.

At our shelter we charge fractions of the price of a new animal. Our charge covers only a small portion of the overall cost for the animal, and this ensures that you are receiving a healthy animal that is going to be safe for your family. Supporting us means that you are supporting a community-based organization that focuses on the animals and your family rather than profit.

  1. You break the stigma on adoption

Often animals that are at our shelters are seen as dangerous or problematic when often this is an unfair judgement based on years of misinformation. Often our dogs are sweet and loving animals who were unwillingly placed in situations that they have no control over. With your help you can make a change in the right direction with pet adoption, and you can show the community around you that there are great animals that just want a second chance.

With all these great reasons to choose pet adoption get to your local shelter and find your new family member forever!
